Two conferences in two weeks! I guess it’s that time of year. The first was the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship (see blog of 22nd October) and the second was that of the Christian Dental Fellowship. Christians and dentists? Is that an oxymoron? Can a person be both?
The answer is, of course, yes. I was a dental student in 1965 when my whole life was turned round by an encounter with Jesus Christ. He’s always there, you see, because he rose from the dead.
We met at Hothorpe Hall in Leicestershire just over a week ago, at the time of writing. There was teaching by Geoff Felton, from 1 Peter. We are in a fallen world, but are to be with hope, holiness and humility.
I found the dental missionaries so inspiring. They told us of their work, helping the local people, and sharing their faith when appropriate. They were relaxed as they told us of Islamic militants taking local people as hostages, killing people, etc. They asked for prayer.
One couple are in …. truly, I dare not tell you where they are. They look after people’s teeth. They would befriend people if permitted. They wept as they told us of the state of individuals in that nation. The fear and oppression is beyond words, but this couple take the love of God there.
So why risk your life to tell others of the love of God – or to demonstrate that love? Simply, because it is true. God really did send Jesus. He really is alive today. He really does change our lives. He really will return soon to establish his kingdom.
Wendy and I pray for the protection and provision for these people. Maybe you would too.
